Study Dorm’s Kindergarten Camp in
Sugar Land prepares kids with the skills needed for Kindergarten and kids going to 1st grade. Our main focus is to help kids hit the ground running. One of the biggest challenges Kindergartners face is the transition from preschool into an elementary school environment. The camp not only teaches and prepares children for kindergarten and 1st grade, but our curriculum is designed with a fun twist to it.
Camps provide exposure to early literacy and numeracy in a structured format. Some of the skills kids need going into Kindergarten or first grade are social skills, like listening, gross and fine motor skill development, verbal communication, imagination and creativity. Others are more academic—the skills kids need to develop as they do more work in reading, writing, and math.
With 55 million students in the United States out of school due to the COVID-19 pandemic, education systems are scrambling to meet the needs of schools and families, including planning how best to approach instruction in the fall given students may be farther behind than in a typical year. Every year, teachers confront “summer learning loss.” But this fall, in some disciplines, students could return with less than 50% of the learning gains and in some grades nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions.
